It’s been a hot minute since you last heard from me. Unfortunately, I had gotten hung up on this last book of the series. The reason for the problem I encountered was because Denise is married with three children, and although I came up with a way to make her story have some romantic elements in it, I hit snags at every turn.
Now , I am not one to give up—although I did contemplate throwing the manuscript into the proverbial trash a few times. I ended up writing five different versions which took me four years.
Version #1: I wrote this version from the heroine’s and hero’s points of view, as I’ve done with the other books in the series. When that wasn’t working …
Version #2: I decided to do a “Then” and “Now” version, so I had to write a complete story of their “Then” days. When I threaded in those chapters between the “Now” chapters, the book was way too long.
Version #3: In order to cut back, I eliminated the hero’s point of view. Not working.
Version #4: So I decided to omit all the “Then” chapters and filter some of the information into the “Now” chapters. Still not completely happy with it.
Version #5: I changed the entire book from third person to first person. Phew!
